The SEC Doesn’t Want To Be Associated With LSU

Show them the money.

Some lawyers are about to make a lot of money from billable hours as college’s Southeastern Conference might be on the verge of throwing out Louisiana State University from its fiefdom, The Lords of the College Gridiron, are in a snit because Louisiana State University has decided NFL rejects from training camp who have one year of eligibility left in their college careers could have a spot on the LSU team. The SEC filed a lawsuit against Louisiana State University football coach Lane Kiffin, and LSU’s Athletic Director Verge Ausberry over what the conference claims is “a deliberate recruitment of pro football athletes.” An amendment to the original lawsuit was filed and claimed LSU has shown a “lack of institutional control” The SEC  accused LSU, Kiffin and Ausberry of deliberately recruiting former college players who had already signed NFL contracts, including players connected to the Browns, Saints, and Buccaneers. The lawsuit argues that this violates its rule that athletes who turn professional cannot return to college football.

The SEC is threatening to toss LSU but the SEC should be rather careful because in the court some of its dirtiest secrets have to be revealed during the discovery part of the lawsuit. Do the grand poohbahs of the fiefdom really want to do that because it might be rather embarrassing. Also how many colleges has the SEC poached from other conferences over the years. That might be fair game and how many coaches would have done the same thing that Kiffin planned, using NFL castoffs who still have a year of college eligibility remaining. The SEC says “LSU is breaking a rule it previously supported, damaging the conference, and forcing other SEC schools to be associated with conduct they unanimously oppose.” The SEC probably cannot afford to reveal its dirty secrets and LSU probably is in the same boat.
