Caitlain Clark’s Health Is A Congressional Concern

116

No bigger world problem than Clark’s well being in a basketball game.

Congress should be keeping its collective eye on the military action in Iran, the Russia-Ukraine War, Mitch McConnell’s health inflation, unemployment and whether Caitlain Clark is being protected by the Women’s National Basketball Association Commissioner Cathy Engelbert. What next? Writing a letter to National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell in an effort to make sure there is no pressure on quarterbacks? Eleven House representatives led by Texas Congressman August Pfluger sent a letter to Engelbert because the 11 are concerned “attacks against Clark may be racially motivated.”  The letter plays into the cultural war narrative and the Washington lawmakers should be more concerned about kitchen table issues but no the WNBA is at the top of the list for these 11.

“As Commissioner, you have an obligation to ensure that every player competes in a safe and professional environment, both on and off the court, free from violence, discrimination, or retaliation,” the letter said. “If discrimination or retaliation is occurring and creating a hostile work environment, we support any appropriate investigation by the Department of Justice, the Department of Labor, or the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. If true, such conduct could constitute violations of federal civil rights laws.” The letter continued about “physical hostility and violence on the court and overly aggressive acts on the court.” The 11 House members wanted to know how the WNBA is dealing with online harassment of its players. Apparently Pfluger never watched the Detroit Pistons players in the 1980s or watched Charles Oakley while he was playing for the New York Knicks in the 1990s. Nor does he know anything about the NBA history and the role of enforcers in the 1950s. While Pfluger is at it, he should write to National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman to tell him to get rid of fighting or Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred to make brushback pitches illegal.
