Bastille Day And France’s Has 2030 Olympics Woes

The 2030 event already has problems.

It is Bastille Day in France, a holiday that is celebrated on July 14th, which commemorates the storming of the Bastille prison on July 14th, 1789, which was a major event in the French Revolution. It is a good day to take a look at the politics of sports business in that country. The 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics may be a memory but the melody lingers on in terms of the cost of the event. It is estimated that the real cost will be around $9 billion US far more than originally budgeted. But France has not had enough of the Olympics. It will host the 2030 Winter Olympics and Paralympics and there are a number of problems connected with the French Alps event. The organizing committee has had differences and some of the people behind the effort to bring the event to the Alps left the committee.  Not every sporting event will take place in the Alps area.

The plan was that Nice would be the host city for the Games with the Opening and Closing Ceremonies being held there. But the mayor of Nice decided not to build an arena for the Games. That caused a major change of plans. Lyon is now the primary 2030 Olympic city.  Lyon is the second-largest metropolitan area in France after Paris, with a population of about 2.3 million people. Lyon will be the host of hockey, figure skating, short track speed skating, and curling events. France does not have a modern, indoor 400-meter track and the speed skating events will take place in the Netherlands. Lyon is closer to the mountains than Nice on the French Riviera coast, bringing most venues within three hours of travel time. The mountains aren’t causing a problem. The Alpine skiing events will be fine unless there is no snow.
