Dallas Stars Ownership Finds Land To Build An Arena In Plano

The ownership hopes to build a new arema by 2031.

The owners of the National Hockey League’s Dallas Stars franchise have picked out the location that they feel is the best spot for the business in the future. A site in Plano which is about 20 miles away from the Stars arena. The operative words here are picked out because there is no formal agreement to relocate the business. Stars ownership has signed a non-binding Letter of Intent, submitted the letter to the City of Plano. The Stars letter is on the agenda for consideration at the Plano City Council meeting June 8th. The action came a day after the National Basketball Association’s Dallas Mavericks ownership announced it was seeking to move to an abandoned mall site in North Dallas and would build an arena-village at the site. The two planned arena-villages would be about 10 miles apart. The hockey business’s lease to use the Fallas arena ends in 2031, the same year that Mavericks ownership lease ends.  â€śThis project would present a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our franchise,” Dallas Stars Owner Tom Gaglardi said. “We eagerly await the vote by the Plano City Council and look forward to continuing the conversation to be part of the redevelopment of The Shops at Willow Bend.”

Plano taxpayers will be putting up about $700 million to help pay for the project if approved. There will be some gadget that could include a mechanism that tax money collected from a specially created entertainment district will go back to the developers instead of a municipality with the thought that the developer is creating jobs within the area. The hockey business wants to build the arena-village by 2031. The real work starts in Plano at the June 8th city council session. Meanwhile the city of Dallas has to figure out what to do with its venue.
