MLB is looking for in-season events.
Major League Baseball’s brain trust has come up with a plan to hold a regular season game inside Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. Since Grand Teton National Park is under the aegis of the federal government, MLB needs permission from the National Park Service and while the National Park Service has been helpful in finding possible spots to put a temporary stadium within Grand Teton National Park, it appears that the White House isn’t all that interested. According to the Washington Post, the White House’s response was simple. “This is not a Presidential directive, nor is it being directed by the White House. It’s also not being driven by the Department of Interior. Therefore, this is not a White House or Administration priority.” It is unclear if the Grand Teton National Park plan is a separate event or part of the Field of Dreams annual event.
Major League Baseball has embraced the 1989 Field of Dreams movie which starred Kevin Costner. The film celebrates the timeless magic of baseball. The movie was shot in Dyersville, Iowa. MLB officials took a long time to take advantage of the movie. The first Field of Dreams game was scheduled for 2020 but it was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The field constructed for the movie, which has been operated as a tourist destination since 1989, could not be brought to MLB game standards so it was decided to build a separate playing facility near the movie ballpark. The first game took place on August 12th, 2021 and there was another game in 2022. MLB left Iowa for three years while a permanent stadium was built. It returned to Iowa this year. MLB has had games in a corn field, at a military base and at a racetrack. Now MLB wants a game at a national park.
