A flag football event, motor races and soccer matches have been cancelled, moved or postponed.
No matter what you call what is going on in the Middle East between the United States, Israel and Iran, a war or a mission, the action has had a major impact on the world of sports. A flag football event, featuring Tom Brady and other athletes, will take place on March 21st in Los Angeles not Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It is a casualty of the war as it probably is not safe to hold the event in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, Formula 1 has cancelled races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. The Formula 1 races were scheduled to take place in Bahrain from April 10th through April 12th and in Saudi Arabia from April 17th through April 19th. Both countries were struck by missile and drone attacks from Iran in retaliation to US-Israeli air strikes. MotoGP has postponed the Qatar Grand Prix. The event was scheduled to take place between April 10th – April 12th. The event is now scheduled to start on November 8th.
The March 27th championship soccer match between Spain and Argentina, that was scheduled to be played in Qatar, has been cancelled because of the situation in the region by UEFA. The match will not be rescheduled. The Qatar Football Association suspended all domestic matches for a time but resumed play. A Triathlon in Abu Dhabi scheduled for March 28th and March 29th has been postponed. There is no real talk about a boycott of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, an event that is scheduled to take place in three countries. The United States will host the bulk of the games with Mexico and Canada hosting the rest. Iran qualified for the World Cup by winning the Asian qualifier. Iran has three games scheduled in the United States. Right now, Iran’s participation is up in the air.
