The New York team will be stocked with players on November 20th.
The New York area will have a new women’s sports team coming to the area. The league will be allocating players to teams on November 20th. But just when the New York team of the Women’s Pro Baseball League will actually play a game in the metropolitan area is unknown. Boston, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco have been given teams in the new women’s league that will start play in August 2026. All four teams will play in Springfield, Illinois during the inaugural season playing a schedule of games that will last about seven weeks. No one is getting rich playing in the league as their will be a salary cap of around $95,000 for the year to be divided among 15 players. The league has no ties to Major League Baseball.
Games will last seven innings and aluminum bats will be used. If the league does last into a second season and if teams are permitted to move into a “home” market, where could the New York franchise call home in the metropolitan area? The team would need a small but modern facility and there are a few of those that exist. Coney Island has a stadium that hosts the Minor League Baseball Brooklyn Cyclones, a New York Mets Double A farm team. That ballpark seats 7,000 people and has hosted more than just baseball games. In Staten Island, the boro’s stadium once hosted a New York Yankees short season Class A short season franchise. The building seats a bit more than 7,000 people and hosts an independent Atlantic League baseball franchise. Another possibility is a rebuilt stadium in Paterson, New Jersey, Hinchliffe Stadium. That venue seats about 7,500 people and hosts a Frontier League franchise, a United Soccer League low level club and Paterson high school athletic events. A fourth possibility is the Central Islip ballpark used by another Atlantic League franchise. A fifth possibility would be in Rockland County, New York in Pomona at stadium that seats slightly more than 6,000 people. The venue is the home of a Frontier League franchise and three college baseball teams. So there options available to the Women’s Pro Baseball League in the New York area. The league though has to survive its first season.

Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson, New Jersey could be a place where the women’s league could place a team.
