Former Mets star and fan favorite Daniel Murphy is going to get more air time this season as he will join Gary Cohen. Ron Darling and/or Keith Hernandez — for a series against another one of his former teams, the Washington Nationals. SNY announced that Murphy would get more games as both the fans and the network like what they saw last season in his limited role with the Mets TV broadcast team.
Murphy is being groomed to replace Hernandez who has made it clear he wants to cut back his workload from around 120 games a year to perhaps 90. While Hernandez at 72 years he is far from thinking about retirement, but thinks the 90 games a season is more than enough.
His long time booth partner Darling has been in demand for network broadcasts on TBS, allowing some flexibility for Murphy to work with Hernandez or Darling when the need to fill in comes up more frequently in 2025 and beyond. While Murphy has become the main fill in broadcaster SNY will still call on both Jerry Blevins, and Todd Zeile to drop by from time to time.
