There are tickets available for the next LIV Golf stop in Rocester, England which starts on July 23rd. How many more LIV Tournaments will take place? Unless someone sends money really soon, the LIV Golf tour will join entities like three American Football Leagues, the American Basketball League, the National Basketball League, the American Basketball Association, the World Hockey Association, the North American Soccer League and one time baseball leagues such as the American Association and the Federal League in history’s dustbin. LIV Golf has three tournaments on the docket in August in New Jersey, Indiana and Michigan but LIV Golf has told employees that layoffs are coming. LIV Golf called off a June stop in Louisiana.
On April 30th, the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, which backed the league initially and invested more than $5 billion into it, announced it was pulling its funding following the 2026 season. The people running the golf league are trying to finish out the 2026 season and they are looking for some financial help to keep the business going. The numbers that have been reported to keep the league going range from $200 to $300 million. Meanwhile, LIV Golf filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice, which is a legal requirement that forces businesses with more than 100 employees to provide at least 60 days’ notice of potential mass layoffs or closings. Meanwhile, the World Golf Group and the Premier Golf League are suing LIV Golf, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Golf Saudi and others because they claim they not the Saudis came up with the idea of a world golf league. The World Golf Group and the Premier Golf League are seeking between $210 million and $630 million in damages. There is a question whether LIV Golf will finish out the season.
