Woody Johnson Is A NFL Failure As An Owner

Johnson’s Jets team has not been competitive in years.

It is another National Football League Sunday and it is another chance for Woody Johnson’s football team to win a game. Johnson’s New York Jets football team is playing the Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore and Woody’s football is just not very good as it has won just two of 10 games. The team is playing out the string. There are a multitude of reasons that has won 173 games and lost 238 games in his 25-year tenure as owner. The team last appeared in the NFL playoffs in 2010. That was the last hurrah as Rex Ryan took Woody’s Jets team to two American Football Conference championship games and lost. But Woody’s team was in the top four in 2009 and 2010. It has been all downhill since then.

But Woody Johnson has a complaint these days about being a terrible owner in terms of winning football games. He doesn’t like the fact that the National Football League Players Association has given him an F as in failure as an owner. He wants to see the NFLPA drop its owner assessment. Although Johnson agrees with the assessment. “Well, I’m obviously not a good owner in terms of winning.” But in March, at the NFL’s league meeting, Johnson said that the survey was “totally bogus” and added ““how they collected the information, who they collected it from. [It] was supposed to be according to the agreement we have with the league. It’s supposed to be a process we have representatives and they have representatives, so we know that it’s an honest survey. And that was violated, in my opinion. I’m going to leave it at that, but I think there are a lot of owners that looked at that survey and said this is not fair, it’s not balanced, it’s not every player, it’s not even representative of the players.” Winning games will help. Making the right assessment in the front office would help. Letting the football people run the show would help. Johnson was the only owner to get an F. He is well on his way to earning an F in 2026.
